Under the authority of the Community Services District Law, California Government Code 61000 the Salton Community Services District currently has the authority and responsibility of the following functions: 1. Collect, treat, or dispose of sewage - The SCSD installs and maintains the sewer distribution and treatment system 2. Collect, transfer, and dispose of solid waste - Burrtec provides curbside trash collection under contract to the SCSD 3. Provide fire protection - The SCSD provide fire protection through a volunteer fire department 4. Acquire, construct recreational facilities - The SCSD owns and operates several parks / facilities in the district 5. Organize, promote community recreation - The SCSD currently has no formal mechanism to promote recreation 6. Acquire, construct, and improve lighting and landscaping - The SCSD currently "rents" street lighting from IID 7. Provide emergency medical services - West Shores Ambulance Service covers the district under SCSD permission
