SCSD Faces $5,000 a Day Fines for Violating State Water Quality Control Board Orders by J.F. McGuire
At its' June 26th, 2007 Meeting the California Regional Water Quality Control Board finalized it's cease and desist order against the Salton Community Services Districts Salton City Sewage System. Although present at the meeting no member of the SCSD management team disputed any of the findings in the order.
The water board found that the SCSD has repeatedly violated past board orders resulting in violations such as seepage into the Arroyo Salada Wash which leads into the Salton Sea and of operating non-permitted emergency holding ponds.
Despite all the facts of the situation Board President Robert Butler of the Salton Community Services District told CBS2 News on June 22nd, 2007 "It's false as far as I know, we have no sewer water or seepage going into Arroyo Salada" while Vice President Shirley Palmer told The Desert Sun "I don't think that it is sewage" about two weeks later as the pollution continued.
Jose Angel of the Colorado River Basin Regional Water Quality Control Board informed The Desert Sun in an article dated July, 15th, 2007 "The findings are very clear. What's coming out into the wash is partially treated, at best, wastewater from the (treatment) ponds. There's no ifs ands or buts." Click to read the Cease and Desist Order

Even six weeks after the Regional Water Quality Control Boards' Cease and Desist Order was issued to the SCSD sewage seepage is still present. Click on pictures to enlarge
Despite still being over capacity and having to utilize an un-permitted emergency pond shown below, the SCSD is still connecting houses to the sewer system.
